Barcelona Bound
As my sophomore year comes to an end, the opportunity to study abroad comes near. This isn’t just a chance to travel; it’s an opportunity to immerse myself in diverse cultures, build new relationships, and become more independent. My mind is set on deepening my Spanish skills, and what better way to do this than by living and studying in a Spanish-speaking country?
Barcelona has captured my imagination like no other city. Its pristine streets, breathtaking architecture, remarkable beaches, and unique boutiques make it the perfect backdrop for this chapter of my life. I’m specifically eager to visit the Museu Picasso. As an art enthusiast, the possibility of seeing Picasso’s masterpieces up close is incredibly exciting. The Catedral de Barcelona is another must-see for me, offering a window into the rich tapestry of the city’s past. And then there’s the Parc de la Ciutadella, with its beautiful fountain and green scenery, perfect for taking lots of photos.
I’m also excited about trying Barcelona’s famous seafood and visiting markets and restaurants to taste different dishes like paella. I can’t wait to go shopping at cool vintage markets and boutiques to find special souvenirs to bring back home. The city’s beaches – Mar Bella, Bogatell, and Nova Icària – are also calling my name. I can already imagine lounging on the sand, swimming in the clear blue waters, and making memories with friends under the Barcelona sun. This adventure would be a significant step out of my comfort zone, leaving the familiar town of Bloomington behind to embrace a new way of life.
This journey to Barcelona is not just about academic growth. It’s a dream opportunity to expand my horizons, understand new cultures, perhaps learn a new language, and connect with people from all walks of life. The beauty of Barcelona, from its historic streets to its vibrant beaches, awaits my exploration. As I count down the months to this incredible adventure, I’m ecstatic to live in one of the most vibrant cities in the world, even if it’s just for a short time.
